Such noise need not be loud to be scary - a little bit of imagination and a lot of darkness can add all the fear that's necessary for a full-fledged fright. "The Great Monster Hunt" opens with a deliciously familiar little thrill of fear that nearly all of us have experienced - that unexplained noise in the night. But then along comes a delightfully silly monster-related story that my daughter enjoys with relish and I think maybe I'm doing the right thing after all. I occasionally question the wisdom of my approach and wonder if in fact I'm making things worse. ![]() I deliberately seek out stories about monsters - the wilder and crazier the better - so that she gets so used to monsters that they are no more threatening than cute little bunnies. My older daughter is a highly-imaginative, sensitive and rather high strung child prone to night-time fears and difficulty going to sleep. ![]()
